“FAIR TRADE”

MUN AGRONOMY LTD

Introduce

FAIR TRADE” concept in their business.

What is Fair Trade?

"Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect, which seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers. It’s a Trade between companies & producers / Growers in whish fair prices are paid to the producers / Growers.

Fair Trade is a global movement of consumers, producers, businesses, and certifiers who consider people and the planet first. They all work together to make sure that they are focusing on treating resources as limited and creating products that benefit the producers who make them and the land that grows them. Fair trade is a simple way to make a difference to the lives of the people who grow the things we love

It seeks to change the terms of trade for the products we buy – to ensure the farmers and artisans behind those products get a better deal. Most often this is understood to mean better prices for producers, but it often means longer-term and more meaningful trading relationships as well.

“FAIR TRADE”

Fair Trade developed out of a response to the negative results of unfair trade practices and the widening divide between the global North and South. Since its inception, the Fair Trade movement has been growing at an exponential rate as more consumers realize that while many benefits from open markets, subsidized commodity items, and products that are mass-produced- many farmers, artisans, and children are losing their livelihoods, freedoms and in the worst cases, human rights.

Fair Trade Goals

Fair Trade goal is to help producers in developing countries to get a fair price for their products, better trading conditions and to promote sustainable farming, so as to reduce poverty, provide for the ethical treatment of workers and farmers, and promote environmentally sustainable practices.

Fair Trade is more than just trading:

  • It proves that greater justice in world trade is possible.
  • It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first.
  • It is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis.

Key Principles of Fair Trade

  • Trading practices are fair and not one-sided.
  • Prices paid are fair and sufficient for producers and workers to earn more than enough to meet their day-to-day needs.
  • Payments are often made in advance to ensure the supplier can fulfill orders.
  • Producers and workers have a voice, whether organized into groups or involved in workplaces where there is freedom of association.
  • Safe working conditions, non-discrimination and welfare of children.

How Mun Agro follows / maintains Fair Trade?

Here we MUN AGRONONY LIMITED is morally accountable to pay fair prices to contacted Farmers or Growers. In engagement of such activity we frequently involve the concern authority CAEO, Farmers representative to ensure the fair trade. For our own Garden we pay fair wages and provide good/healthy environment. Apart from Market price, we pay the farmer our contacted price which we did agreement before the mango production starts therefore it make sure that Farmers are getting a good price. They know at what price they are going to sell to us and how they are benefitted. Normally Market ups and downs and farmers are uncertain if they can sell their product in right price. But for our Fare trade system farmers know well ahead the selling price of his products and can make plan based on that. Also they has no worries as Min will buy at the same price that they contacted, even markets goes down.

For Bagging Mano

In regards of Bagging Mango the grown cost is significantly higher than that of non-Bagging Mango. Here every individual mango required to be covered by a Bag. Tying bag on a mango is a difficult process and inconvenient for the workers. Especially in the context of BD.  It’s new & most of the labors are trainee. During growing time bags need to open randomly to check if the mango ok inside the bag. This process also slow & worker payment related. When the mangoes are harvested it takes longer aprox ¾ time’s then none bagging mango. Re-bagging an extra process between harvest & packing. Since this mango is safe farmers must ensure a healthy packaging place & environment which is again costly. All this extra cost we are paying to our growers.

We Mun Agro is Associating with Farmers to ensure their fair price to maintain our Fair Trade.
